Enrollment and Attendance FAQs

GDS serves North Carolina students in grades K–12. Any student in grades K–12 who resides in North Carolina is eligible for full-time enrollment.

Because DVS provides the lesson plans and materials for students in grades K–12, many parents find it easy to enroll multiple children in the program.

Since DVS is a public school program, there is no tuition. DVS provides North Carolina-licensed teachers and all instructional materials for the program.* However, students and families are responsible for providing some consumable materials (such as printer ink and paper). In addition, families are required to provide their own computers and internet access to participate in the program. DVS will provide loaner computers as needed, and this determination will take place during the enrollment process.

As a public school, DVS follows applicable state laws and attendance requirements. DVS works with families toward a positive attendance record to meet the required 185 instructional days. A parent or Learning Coach logs attendance daily in the Online School.
