Why Attendance Matters

Students who attend school regularly are more likely to:

  • Achieve higher academic success
  • Build strong relationships with teachers and classmates
  • Stay on track with coursework and graduation goals
  • Develop positive habits that lead to lifelong success

Even two missed days each month can have a significant impact on learning and progress.

Attendance Expectations for 2026-2027

  • Students attend school every day by:
  • Logging in daily
  • Attending scheduled Class Connect sessions
  • Completing assignments and coursework in Canvas
  • Learning Coaches enter attendance daily (COMING SOON, feature is currently off)

Excused absences may include illness, medical appointments, and other approved reasons according to district policy. These are outlined in the school handbook page 28: DVS Student Handbook.

Submit the DVS School Absence Form Here.

Unexcused absences and frequent tardiness will be monitored closely. Our attendance team will partner with families through regular communication, attendance check-ins, and student support resources.

Attendance FAQs

Below are common questions and answers about attendance:

Please make sure you have tried to troubleshoot the issue, including making sure you’re using your student’s DVS email address to access the form, clearing cache and cookies, and trying the link on a different device. Personal emails will result in an error as the form MUST be accessed using a K12 school issued email. If you still cannot access the form after troubleshooting steps, please email the attendance specialist for your student’s grade band.

Students are required to log in every day and complete work in Canvas, regardless if your teacher is present that day. Students can work on Canvas coursework, work on iReady, rewatch class connects for further understanding, or other related course work. If your student does not log in they will NOT be counted present for that day.

Upon enrolling with DVS, legal guardians sign the Acknowledgement of Expectations which states that families are responsible for finding an alternative method of logging in to school if you’re unable to log in for any reason. The state does not recognize power outages/internet outages as a valid absence so any absences due to this will be unexcused.

Here are some resources that can help you with any internet/tech issues moving forward:

  • Your Library: Use this to find your local library system. Libraries have computers and wifi that can be used for free. They may also have devices that can be loaned out, inquire with your library on resources offered.
  • Free Wifi Locations: To search a list of free public Wi-Fi access locations visit the Division of Broadband and Digital Equity’s site
  • Wireless Providers: Check with your wireless provider to see if they offer programs such as Free Internet for Students: Project 10Million | T-Mobile
